Julie's Journey Into Senior Care
Like most people who work in this industry, it started with positive and loving relationships with elders in my family and neighborhood. I enjoyed the experience of interning in a retirement community while in college, and obtained my first job working in a nursing home. It wasn't the best experience- nursing homes were quite different back then than today. But something triggered in me to stay the course to try and make things better. In 1990, I obtained a license as a nursing home administrator, and moved into management level positions. In 2003, I finished a master's degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in Healthcare Management and obtained a position as Chief Executive Officer/Administrator for a senior care community in Chicago.
I left that position after 15 years to pursue teaching, training and education. I am working to inspire young people to enter this field, and continue to educate and support those caring for our precious resource- elders.
